Austin Movies Inc.: ‘The Two Bobs’

“The Two Bobs” — Monday, a five-week shoot began for this ultra-low-budget comedy written and directed by Austin-based Tim McCanlies (‘Secondhand Lions,’ ‘Smallville’). It’s a gaming spoof, produced by Anne Walker-McBay and Paul Alvarado-Dykstra, who are not talking about the project. The comedy stars Cody Kasch, Devin Ratray and Tyler Francavilla. McCanlies provides his own plot summary at IMDB.com: ‘Just as they finish their ground-breaking violent video-game masterpiece, the two gaming legends known as The Two Bobs discover that their precious game software has been stolen — and with it, their livelihoods, genius reputations, everything they own. To get back their game — and their lives —The Two Bobs and their fellow-geek employees Munch, Doofus and The Dark Prince are forced to ‘turn detective’ and plunge into the strange world of Christian Venture Capitalists, aged Dixie Mafia hoodlums and bizarre Internet Spammers that inhabit Austin.’

McCanlies owes a lot to Paul. He let him in on the whole Fantastic Fest thing. He brought him into Austin film. And Anne Walker-McBay was difficult to work with, I hear.

I was mentored by Tim Mccanlies and Guillermo del Toro. I wouldn’t expect you Philistines to understand.

Chelsea: I worked on T2B and what’s “uncool” is that they didn’t put him on the crew list even though he’s associate producer. He spent over a year developing the project with the screenwriter, brought the lead producer on board, and even ended up co-financing. The project just never would’ve happened if it weren’t for him. A lot of us think he deserves more credit for that, not less.

My friend is an intern on this film. He said the actual producers are Anne Walker-McBay and Seth Caplan. This Paul guy isn’t even on the crew list. How uncool, to just put your name on someone elses work. … It is this type of stuff that gives tx film a bad name.

Could this be what’s currently filming at 2222 and Mopac, perhaps? The office parking lot connected to ours is full of trailers near the Mopac side.
