Lauren Kelleher, marketing manager for Dripping Springs Vodka.
Although originally from the U.S., Lauren Kelleher moved to Austin from London two years ago and has since been confusing people with her lack of a British accent and unfamiliarity with American slang. She worked in England as an interior designer and is now marketing manager for Dripping Springs Vodka, a family-run craft vodka company. She lives in a 1920s lavender house in SoCo with her dog Opal. How will you start your Friday night?
This Friday I’m checking out Easy Tiger early for some beers and a little snack.
What band will you see this weekend?
I’m seeing my favorite dark country singer/song writer Robert Ellis at the Paramount. He now lives in Wimberley, and his album “Photographs” was named a top 20 Country Album for 2011.
What’s your favorite Austin band aside from who you will see this weekend?
I’m a fan of the Gourds and recently got introduced to Whiskey Shivers (one of the most fun shows I’ve ever seen).
What is your favorite venue to watch a show?
I love La Zona Rosa because of the outside courtyard and because although they have big names, it still feels kinda intimate.
Where will you go for late night eats after your night out?
I have a very indulgent late night Home Slice habit, which I just can’t seem to control.
Where can we find you when you are craving barbecue?
No matter where else I try, I always seem to come back to Rudy’s for their brisket. Those guys are pros.
Where can we find you when you are craving Tex-Mex?
It’s not Tex-Mex per se, but Torchy’s is my very favorite. My birthday present to myself last year was eating an entire serving of queso — alone.
Where can we find you grabbing a margarita?
La Condesa for all their tequila based cocktails and Docs for the insane pleasure of a Sundown (beer and frozen margarita) on a super hot day.
If you go to the lake, what will you do and which lake will you go to?
My rescue dog Opal is hyperactive enough to need the 5 mile loop on Town Lake everyday she’s not in daycare.
What is your favorite place to get brunch?
A croissant and coffee from La Boite Cafe on South Lamar. Their croissants are a work of art.
What’s your one “must-do” for visitors to Austin (this weekend or in general)?
The Continental Club never seems to disappoint, no matter what city visitors are from.
If you’re in need of a little pampering, where will you go? What do you recommend having done?
I love the pedicures at Embellish Spa. It’s just about the most girlie thing you can do
.
If you’re having a date night, what romantic spot will you go to and what will you order?
I think the most romantic things are the simplest, like a charcuterie board at Vino Vino or eating fried chicken from Mrs P’s in bed.
What’s Austin’s best-kept secret?
The Horseshoe Lounge — the best dive bar of all.
How will you end your Austin weekend? Where will you go and what will you do?
A good friend of mine treated me to a massage at Milk and Honey, which I’m doing Sunday evening. After that I think I’m going to buy some nice ingredients from Central Market and cook a classic French fish stew …
