How will you start your Friday night?
Friday night begins with a few drinks and skeeball games at Kung Fu Saloon. Then off to the East Side.
If you go to a happy hour, which bar will you go to? What will you order?
The Side Bar. Probably the strongest drinks I’ve had in town and bottles are dirt cheap at happy hour.
What band will you see this weekend?
Tonight was a rough night to choose: White Denim at Hotel Vegas or Neil Hamburger at ND or Balmorhea at The Parish? Ultimately, my decision was easy to buy tickets for Neil Hamburger because my favorite local band, T-Bird and the Breaks, is opening. Mind you, I had a friend that used to be in Balmorhea and White Denim rocked my New Year’s Eve.
What’s your favorite Austin band aside from who you will see this weekend?
Wild Child. I can’t help but wish they were huge already.
What is your favorite venue to watch a show?
Studio 6A, the original “Austin City Limits” Studio. But since that isn’t in use anymore, La Zona Rosa is definitely the best place for an intimate show with national acts.
Where will you go for late night eats after your night out?
Whataburger. If you haven’t tried the new spicy ketchup, then you’re missing out. Otherwise, 24 Diner has a sweet Chicken and Waffles that will put you in a food coma.
Where can we find you when you are craving barbecue?
A short hop over in Lockhart, Texas. Can’t go wrong with Smitty’s or Black’s.
Where can we find you when you are craving Tex-Mex?
Serrano’s at Symphony Square. It’s food mi abuela would be proud of.
Where can we find you grabbing a margarita?
Z Tejas. I don’t know anywhere else where you can get a margarita flight.
If you go to the lake, what will you do and which lake will you go to?
Lady Bird Lake. Hydrobiking is fun and isn’t as much of a core workout as stand up paddle boarding.
What is your favorite place to get brunch?
Moonshine.
What is your favorite outdoor spot to enjoy a sunny Saturday?
Gillis park. Get a pickup kickball game going and enjoy the weather. Looks like this weekend will involve Ultimate Frisbee at Zilker, though.
What trails will you hit this weekend?
If my allergies allow for it, the trail around Lady Bird Lake is accessible for whatever activity is your speed. You’ll find walkers, speed walkers, dog walkers, dog runners, runners, joggers, bikers and each one just as welcome.
What’s your one “must-do” for visitors to Austin?
Get outdoors. It is a bit cool out now but come summer time, you’re going to forget how great this weather is how nice it is not to sweat.
Where will you be seen shopping?
HOPE Farmer’s Market.
What’s Austin’s best-kept secret?
Poodie’s Hilltop Roadhouse
How will you end your Austin weekend? Where will you go and what will you do?
On this three day weekend, I’ll end it by catching the Hitchcock classic, “Vertigo,” at the South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse.
