Melissa Stewart owns Crab Apple Designs and makes gifts for geeks from vintage books, games and comics plus original designs. Find her products online and in town at Atown, Cypress Vanguard and Green House. She lives in Austin with her sweet man Barry Stewart and pets Lucy and T’Biddy. Melissa is also an assistant producer at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar.

How will you start your Friday night?
With some Bad Ass Queso and any movie at the Alamo Drafthouse.

If you go to a happy hour, which bar will you go to? What will you order?
The Hair of the Dog at the Highball. When you can get it, it is the best!

What band will you see this weekend?

I will be at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, looking forward to Sahara Smith! You should definitely check it out.

What’s your favorite Austin band aside from who you will see this weekend?
My favorite Austin musician for the last 20 years is Darden Smith.

What is your favorite venue to watch a show?

I absolutely love the intimacy of the Cactus Café but the new ACL Live at the Moody Theater is great. The Long Center is also incredible.

Where will you go for late night eats after your night out?
Kerby Lane; both of my brothers work there and I love it.

Where can we find you when you are craving barbecue?
THE SALT LICK.

Where can we find you when you are craving Tex-Mex?
Torchy’s Tacos and heavenly queso.

If you go to the lake, what will you do and which lake will you go to?
As a science geek I love the geology at Inks Lake.

What is your favorite place to get brunch?
Oh, so many places!! Austin Diner, Torchy’s, Moonshine, and Hoovers.

What is your favorite outdoor spot to enjoy a sunny Saturday?
I love to walk through our neighborhood, Hyde Park, and look at the beautiful old houses.

Where is your favorite place to take your dog? My dog likes to run! Zooming up Enchanted Rock is right up her alley.

What trails will you hit this weekend?
I like out of the way trails like the Goodwater Trail in Georgetown.

What’s your one “must-do” for visitors to Austin (this weekend or in general)?
The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar! It is the 36th Season and it is better than ever! Shopping, music, art, drinks. Yay!

If you’re in need of a little pampering, where will you go? What do you recommend having done?
The Crossings Spa to lounge by the pool all day.

Where will you be seen shopping?
I love thrift shopping: Room Service, Goodwill Blue Hanger, Half Price Books…

If you’re having a date night, what romantic spot will you go to and what will you order?
Hyde Park Bar and Grill. Order a plate of their fries to share.

What’s Austin’s best-kept secret?
Green House, an art house and handmade boutique on the expanding North Loop shopping district. They have parties and fun art, music and film celebrations every week, plus neighborhood potlucks, swap meets and art and craft nights.

How will you end your Austin weekend? Where will you go and what will you do?
I absolutely love taking classes at Stitch Lab. That would be my ideal way to end the weekend, then spend the evening practicing my new mad skills!
