The XL Entertainment Quiz

Back in olden days, dog-eared books lined the desks of newspaper entertainment reporters and editors — condensed guides to movies, food, wine, cocktails, television, publishing, dance, rock, country, jazz, architecture, art, theater, opera, classical music, etc.

Actually, those books still gather dust on newsroom desks (mine included), but they serve mostly as decoration, nostalgia for the Gutenberg age.

Research, browsing, fact-checking and cross-checking — before and after human contact with sources and subjects — is done almost exclusively online. We bookmark entertainment Web sites and organize them on our tool bars in order to facilitate efficient execution of our duties.

It's a workaday world.

Yet almost anything online can be turned into some kind of game, if you squint long enough. So the American-Statesman entertainment staff assembled a list of our most trafficked resource sites, then we transformed those into a pop trivia quiz, which you can complete to win an entertainment prize package.

(Winners will be picked at random from those entrants who correctly answer all 20 questions. All sites are hot-linked below.)

We left out some omnibus sites, such as Amazon.com and Wikipedia.com, since they can be used for almost any field of questions. And no fair Googling everything.
